This is the fourth book I’ve read in the current Quick Reads list, and sadly to say it was really quite disappointing。I completely understand there is only so much you can do with a novella of this size – there are limitations, and I have completely taken that in to account。 However, for me, this felt like a really over-simplistic telling of a story。 To be honest, it felt immature as both a concept, and in writing style。Very one-dimensional, nothing happens – but there are some cracking looking This is the fourth book I’ve read in the current Quick Reads list, and sadly to say it was really quite disappointing。I completely understand there is only so much you can do with a novella of this size – there are limitations, and I have completely taken that in to account。 However, for me, this felt like a really over-simplistic telling of a story。 To be honest, it felt immature as both a concept, and in writing style。Very one-dimensional, nothing happens – but there are some cracking looking recipes at the back。 。。。more

Quick read, quick moving storyAs a quick read goes it's not bad but if this was a full novel by Katie Fforde I would hope it would be written better。 It's a bit far fetched and a lot happens in such a short book。 Quick read, quick moving storyAs a quick read goes it's not bad but if this was a full novel by Katie Fforde I would hope it would be written better。 It's a bit far fetched and a lot happens in such a short book。 。。。more

I am a big fan of Katie Fforde novels and when the opportunity came to read this short novella I of course jumped at the chance。Allie is bored with her job in a supermarket and the people she works with, she is bored with her boyfriend Ryan。 Every day she walks past a place she wants to work – a little café。 One day she gets the chance。But she needs to learn about cooking and learn that there is more to life than Ryan。Grabbing every opportunity, Allie can see a different world in front of her。A I am a big fan of Katie Fforde novels and when the opportunity came to read this short novella I of course jumped at the chance。Allie is bored with her job in a supermarket and the people she works with, she is bored with her boyfriend Ryan。 Every day she walks past a place she wants to work – a little café。 One day she gets the chance。But she needs to learn about cooking and learn that there is more to life than Ryan。Grabbing every opportunity, Allie can see a different world in front of her。A lovely book to escape to and enjoy anther world and also show you that all opportunities are out there and perhaps you just need a push in the right direction。Perhaps that push is reading and Saving the Day is one of the 2021 Quick Reads series to encourage those who perhaps don’t read normally or struggle the starting blocks to discovering more adventures in the pages of books。 Once you discover Katie Fforde you can indulge in all of her previous works and they will bring you sheer joy – guaranteed。 。。。more

What a load of trollop。I have read many a quick read and I understand they are a bit more succinct and to-the-point, but this one was as if it was written for a five-year old, it was so simple and dull I almost fell asleep in the bath with it and drowned myself。Cringe-worthy read, just DONT EVEN BOTHER。It gets a 2 star from me because it had a couple of recipes at the end。

I am a massive fan of @ffordekatie and always like to pick up the Quick reads。We meet Allie who wants a new challenge in her life。 She finds the courage to dump her useless boyfriend and have opportunities open up to her。It is a lovely quick read and you soon become absorbed in the characters。At the end of the book there are recipes for you to try to recreate。

I've read a few of these short reads and always found them dissatisfying。 They don't have to conform to short story rules - they don't need to be as "tight"。 They are, dare I say it? yes, like a serial story in a magazine。 This was light, lacked the space to develop many characters or build any suspense。 A shame, but maybe they work for more reluctant readers。 I don't think those I have read serve their authors well, and would put me off reading a new author rather than attract me to them。 I've read a few of these short reads and always found them dissatisfying。 They don't have to conform to short story rules - they don't need to be as "tight"。 They are, dare I say it? yes, like a serial story in a magazine。 This was light, lacked the space to develop many characters or build any suspense。 A shame, but maybe they work for more reluctant readers。 I don't think those I have read serve their authors well, and would put me off reading a new author rather than attract me to them。 。。。more

Katie Fforde writes beautiful stories, and this is no exception。 Our heroine, Allie, leads a life dominated by her bully boyfriend, Ryan。 She dreams of getting out from under his spell and sees her escape when a local café advertises for a member of staff。Although this is a short story, it pack the usual Katie Fforde punch, creating likeable characters and realistic situations。 I felt a real joy as Allie began following her chosen path and loved the details of her progress from supermarket shelf Katie Fforde writes beautiful stories, and this is no exception。 Our heroine, Allie, leads a life dominated by her bully boyfriend, Ryan。 She dreams of getting out from under his spell and sees her escape when a local café advertises for a member of staff。Although this is a short story, it pack the usual Katie Fforde punch, creating likeable characters and realistic situations。 I felt a real joy as Allie began following her chosen path and loved the details of her progress from supermarket shelf stacker to star baker and saviour of the day!As usual, Katie Fforde creates a wonderful supporting cast to add to this gorgeous story。Whatever reason brings you to this quick read, you’ll be glad you picked it up。 。。。more

I’ve always enjoyed a Katie Fforde book and this one immediately appealed。 These Quick Reads books may be short, with just under 100 pages, but they do contain a fully fledged short story, as much as is possible。 As an added bonus, this book also contains 3 recipes at the back, all of which are referred to in the story。Twenty year old Allie worked had spent all her working life as a shelf stacker in a supermarket but wanted a new challenge。 She desperately wanted to work in a local cafe however I’ve always enjoyed a Katie Fforde book and this one immediately appealed。 These Quick Reads books may be short, with just under 100 pages, but they do contain a fully fledged short story, as much as is possible。 As an added bonus, this book also contains 3 recipes at the back, all of which are referred to in the story。Twenty year old Allie worked had spent all her working life as a shelf stacker in a supermarket but wanted a new challenge。 She desperately wanted to work in a local cafe however her lack of cooking skills was a definite disadvantage。 Also dragging her down was her longterm boyfriend Ryan。 A lazy little toerag who treated her like dirt and who she was really still with out of habit。 She lived with her dad, and with Edith and Rita, her interfering work colleagues always criticising, her life really wasn’t much fun。As it is such a short story I won’t go into details, but Saving the Day is a really enjoyable uplifting story about finding the courage to make changes, never being afraid to learn something new and making your own opportunities – and how showing kindness to others can pay dividends when you need help yourself。 There are several delicious foody references – see recipes above together with some engaging characters – and the not so likeable! To prevent the story being overly sweet, there is a little bit of drama for that extra bite!I’ve bought many of these Quick Reads over the years – they are quality reads and always enjoyable。 。。。more

I've read and enjoyed a few novels by Katie Fforde, so was delighted to be invited to read this "Quick Reads" story。This is an uplifting story - I won't spoil it by rehashing the plot, but it was great to see our heroine "Allie" reach for the stars and turn her life around, with positive consequences for others too!
